A jury of experts consisting of Walter Grasskamp (art historian and critic), Franziska Leuthäußer (former Städel Museum, Frankfurt), Corinna Thierolf (Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich), Ulrich Wilmes (former main curator Haus der Kunst, Munich) and Bernd Zimmer (initiator and founder) select the artists invited for the STOA169 project.
The participating artists each develop a column 3.90 metres high. They are completely free to choose their own design, materials, form and technique. The maximum diameter of the column should not exceed 91 centimetres. The columns can be manufactured in the artists’ workshops or on site in Polling.
In order to open the view into the future, the STOA169 is traversed by a diagonal row of columns consisting of static basic columns. Each year, an international art academy is asked to select young artists to work on one of these pillars with their vision.
