“For me it was very important that I find a purely painterly solution for the column; an illusory solution for sure, but not one that is too illustrative, so in the end I scraped my original idea for a fire column.
The result is an illusory space in golden yellow, which displays both spatial depth as well as corporeality. Visitors look upon the compact appearance of the oversized floating drops – or perhaps they are bubbles of air. It is a little bit like an underwater image.
Now I truly hope that this magical atmosphere can be transferred to the column, and I am rather excited to see the effect that will unfold.”
