Brigitte Kowanz: Transmission

„The considered handling of data and information is one of the greatest challenges facing today’s global community. Accordingly, my work ‘Transmission’ is intended as food for thought.
Morse code is a very early binary code and still functions as the essential foundation of our contemporary information society. In telegraphy it was used to transmit information over great distances at the speed of light for the first time. ‘Transmission’ not only appears on one column, but it extends across to a second stele as a communicative means of information exchange. The second stele is meant as a gesture towards the first. Telecommunication and the transfer of information as the fundamental parameters of a global, cosmopolitan society.
Language and perception are themselves constant processes of translation. Essential elements, molecules of information: short – long, on – off. Between them the data.”
